Greenhouse – Nurturing Mission

St Paul’s is continuing to see significant growth as people become part of our church. Many activities the church is involved in are missional, from Warm welcome to youth drop in, Baby basics to alpha, kitchen garden to games community, school visits to pastoral care. In each of these there is a desire to be Christ-like to the community of people they connect with. The activities draw on different volunteers to love, serve and bear witness to Jesus.

At its heart, Greenhouse is looking to help St Paul’s to grow as missional people. Greenhouse aims to build on and develop the current missional activities as well as nurture and release new mission initiatives. These are both things that take place in the church buildings, and organically as we respond to the Spirit’s lead and pursue opportunities to build relationships that point others to Jesus. Greenhouse will invest in missional seeds, shoots and plants to grow and bear fruit, praying for those outside the church drawn into a relationship with Jesus.

Initially, Greenhouse will be a monthly gathering of anyone interested in exploring a missional opportunity or idea and those already involved in leading missional initiatives. This could be as simple as inviting people round for a cup of tea or having lunch with colleagues at work, or as complicated as organising an area-wide event to campaign for justice around food poverty. These gatherings will seek to be a ‘Greenhouse’ - a context to encourage, stimulate and support missional initiatives at St Paul’s.

Rather than being an extra thing to squeeze in, the hope is that those interested will feel released once a month from a small group or other activity and able to join Greenhouse. It may be that a whole small group would choose to engage in Greenhouse to pursue something missional together.

 

The dates of the first three gatherings of Greenhouse are:
Tuesday 14th May, Tuesday 11th June and Tuesday 9th July at 7:30pm

As Greenhouse gets going, the plan is to create other points during the month to gather those for whom a Tuesday evening isn’t ideal. There will also be opportunities for coaching to help ideas become reality, and those already up and running to develop as they pursue God.

​

Greenhouse is not a magic formula that will guarantee seeing people coming to know Jesus, but it is an investment in missional ideas, opportunities and people. The hope and prayer at the heart of Greenhouse is that many will feel better equipped, empowered and encouraged in mission, and as we hear stories of God at work in and through St Paul’s, we will all grow as missional people.
